Listing to world tourists’ Map Vital for boosting Bangladesh’s tourism

Listing Bangladesh in the world tourist map is important to boost its tourism industry. If listed on the map, then the country’s tourism industry will be promoted. Global travelers will then know Bangladesh as a tourist country.
Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) made this view recently.
He visited Chittagong for a two-day annual event of the United Nation`s World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) last month.
During his visit, he discussed with Bangladesh tourism related stakeholders about the ways to promote Bangladesh tourism industry globally.
UNWTO Secretary-General also appreciated the activities of the stakeholders for promoting the industry under the initiative ‘Welcome Bangladesh.’ He assured of his all-out cooperation for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh organised the ever-first annual event of the UNWTO.
On the sideline of the event, he shared views with various stakeholders. He also talked to Dalton Zahir, the initiator of Welcome Bangladesh.
During a meeting, Zahir requested the UNWTO official to include Bangladesh as a tourists’ destination country in the World Tourist Map so that travellers across the world can understand and find Bangladesh as a tourist destination and that will help Bangladesh tourism to explore to global travellers.
Mentionable, the United Nations has declared 2017 the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. UNWTO Secretary-General also discussed how Welcome Bangladesh can work together with UNWTO jointly and promote Bangladesh globally.Speaking in the event, Taleb Rifai said, “With growth what comes is power, and with power comes responsibility. Some 1.8 billion international tourists are expected to travel world-wide by 2030. These 1.8 billion travellers can and should translate into opportunities for inclusive economic growth, for more and better jobs, opportunities to protect the natural and cultural heritage, to better know and respect each other, to bond people, to distribute wealth and share prosperity. ”As per the declaration a two-month long programme will be celebrated for promote of the tourism sector to building a better world. This is the major goal of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017 that will start shortly, it was focused at the event.
The United Nations General Assembly declared 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development recalling the potential of tourism to advance the universal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The International Year aims to support a change in policies, business practices and consumer behavior towards a more sustainable tourism sector than can contribute effectively to the SDGs.
“This is a unique opportunity to build a more responsible and committed tourism sector that can capitalize its immense potential in terms of economic prosperity, social inclusion, peace and understanding, cultural and environmental preservation” said UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai.
Accounting for 7 percent of worldwide exports, one in eleven jobs and 10 percent of the world’s GDP, the tourism sector if well managed can foster inclusive economic growth, social inclusiveness and the protection of cultural and natural assets.
The International Year will promote tourism’s role in five key areas. They are –  inclusive and sustainable economic growth; social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction; resource efficiency, environmental protection and climate change; cultural values, diversity and heritage; and mutual understanding, peace and security.
The presentation of the International Year will take place in Madrid on 18 January 2018 on the occasion of the Spanish Tourism Fair, FITUR, it was informed.
